JUST IN: Pope’s Visit to Malta & Gozo in May Is Postponed Until Further Notice
Decision Taken to Protect Against Coronavirus, Announced Today by Director of Holy See Press Office
The Vatican announced that Pope Francis’ anticipated travel to Malta and Gozo on May 31, is being postponed, due to the coronavirus crisis worldwide.
Holy See Press Office Director, Matteo Bruni, said this morning, March 23, 2020: “Due to the current global situation and in agreement with the authorities and the local Church, the announced Apostolic Trip to Malta has been postponed until further notice.”
The original statement announcing the trip had said:
“Welcoming the invitation of the President of the Republic of Malta, the Authorities and the Catholic Church of the Country,” Bruni said in a statement, “His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Malta and Gozo on May 31, 2020.”
“The program of the journey will be published at a later stage,” he said.
