Saints remarkable season got even more remarkable today

The New Orleans Saints are incredible; tonight boasting a 13-2 record, the easy winners of the NFC South and now the NFC #1 seed with home field advantage for the playoffs.  How did this happen today?  It was a gutsy, slug fest victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers capped off by the 46th game winning drive led by QB Drew Brees!

Today's game was a tough one and the Saints needed to snap out of their offensive doldrums during the recent 3 week road trip.  Today the offense scored 31 points and they needed every single one of them because Pittsburgh managed 28 and was indeed driving after the Saints took the lead late.  The defense struggled today compared to the last three weeks but they came up big with a game sealing fumble recovery.

Thank the good Lord that Ted Ginn was back, there is so much potential there and he helps Michael Thomas.  Kirkwood played good but had a very bad drop late in the game.  #10 was just out there.  Overall, more receives need to play better.  The offensive line, given all the injury problems played well but could not open any consistent holes for the running backs.  These are things I'm sure the coaching staff is well aware of and they will work this out.  The defense just could not stop Steeler wide outs and I am concerned about today's play of Lattimore.  But in the end there is too much to be excited about.

Bottom line: the Saints are 13-2 and on the way to nothing but home playoff games.  That is exciting.  Now if you bought a ticket for next weeks encounter against the Carolina Panthers, all of a sudden this game means nothing.  I would not be surprised if Brees does not play along with a bunch of other starters.  Time will tell.  But for now the New Orleans Saints say Merry Christmas Saints fans; your team is the #1 NFC seed!
