Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, had requested to speak by phone with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Monday that the telephone conversation took place between the two counterparts earlier in the morning.

“During the conversation,” read a press release, “Archbishop Gallagher expressed the Holy See's serious concern about what is happening in Israel and Palestine, reiterating the absolute necessity to avoid escalating the conflict and to achieve a two-state solution for a stable and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
