This pastoral letter by Bishop John Barres from the Diocese of Rockville Center is brilliant. He wrote this letter with the 1969 New York Mets, World Series winning New York Mets, in mind. This fall it is the 50th anniversary of the Mets beating the highly-favored Baltimore Orioles 4 games to 1 in that famous 1969 World Series.
The Bishop made lots of important points about evangelization, bringing the young and the lost back to the Church all from the perspective of how the Mets 1969 championship brings joy and excitement to even those fans who were not even born yet. It is a great read and one I hope you will take the time to actually read this. It is extremely well written and drives home several points in way anybody can relate to; enjoy:
