Today, August 26, Marks Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa
Solemnity in the Sign of Polish-Ukrainian relations
The Eucharistic Celebration on the occasion of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Czestochowa was presided over, in the Sanctuary of Jasna Gora, by Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland, and concelebrated by many bishops and international guests, including Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Tens of thousands of pilgrims participated in the Holy Mass.
Archbishop Polak said in the homily that “the presence of Mary in the Miraculous Image of Jasna Gora tells us about Mary’s presence in the life of Jesus and the Church, in the life of the Polish nation”.
Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, also took part in the feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa at Jasna Gora. “The presence of Archbishop Sviatoslav is not only a confirmation that one of the main spiritual routes of the whole Slavdom leads here, to Jasna Gora. It is also a testimony of the Polish-Ukrainian ecclesiastical dialogue that has been conducted for over thirty years between our Churches” – said the Primate of Poland.
At the end, the Primate of Poland referred to the homily of St. John Paul II held at Jasna Gora during the first pilgrimage to Poland. He emphasized that at that time, the Pope pleaded for justice and love that are the conditions of the unity of the nation.
