Last Saturday of Advent = Christmas gathering at our house

Sometimes I use this blog to share an inside look at our life; I certainly did in 2018 as this was a very difficult year.  Today was a nice day for our small family.  We gathered Wendy's immediate family today for lunch and gifts and an opportunity to visit for the first time since the loss of Wendy's mom.

All that is left now is Wendy and her sister Carrie so we got together and were joined by Carrie's granddaughter Olivia and our daughter Elizabeth, husband Mark and our granddaughter #2, Brennan.  She was outstanding; for a 9 month old she was happy and let everyone hold her and play with her.  Brennan is a champ.

Wendy went all out today, using her first class china and crystal, now proudly displayed in her mom's china cabinet we received after her death.  For lunch we had ham, potato salad, baked beans, artichoke casserole, baked cauliflower and more!

After lunch gifts were exchanged among the children/grandchildren and we just let Brennan play and play while we enjoyed a nice family event.

As mentioned earlier, I did not know how things would go since this was Wendy & Carrie's first Christmas event after the death of their mom.  They handled the day well but I am sure they experienced some sadness at her not being present, at least physically.

It was a nice day and I took the time to share with all to enjoy family, especially if you, like us, have experienced a loss in the past year and find your remaining family growing smaller.  As we light that last Advent candle tonight, we look forward to Christmas with great joy and thankfulness for family, both those still with us and those who have gone before us.
