I want to explain why earlier I posted something was not quite right tonight even though the Saints have won their 10th game in a row. And yes, maybe it is a case of spoileditis, I mean the Saints are steamrolling team after team, week after week. While the game was not really close it had the feeling of being close. And what the Saints have become over the past several weeks just did not seem present tonight. Maybe it's perspective, but it just didn't feel the same.
Drew Brees threw an interception, when the game was still early and anybody's game. Drew Brees suffered a sack. Both of these statements are rare in 2018; so like I said earlier; maybe I and the rest of us are spoiled. Also, our punter had to make more than just a cameo appearance and at times it seemed we kept Atlanta around but looking back, I guess not really. I guess it says something when you get a lot nervous and a little disappointed in a 14 point win against this nasty Atlanta team.
But then I did some digging and discovered that only Michael Thomas, a for sure All-Pro receiver, was indeed the only starting receiver around. We did not have rookie sensation Smith, Coleman is not yet ready and guys like Ginn and Meredith are gone. So what happens tonight? Drew Brees just throws TD's to the following heretofore little known names: TommyLee Lewis, Austin Carr and Keith Kirkwod along with TE Dan Arnold. I bet no one, I mean no one, had these guys on their fantasy list. Maybe this is how good the Saints really are: slightly off and they destroy Atlanta and no starting receivers and no big deal.
One of the main differences seems to be a defense that is much improved and tonight was a turnover factory. There is a bend, don't break mentality and I am anxious to see if this defense can improve even more.
The Saints are a very healthy 10-1 and the next closest team in the NFC South already has 4 losses. The schedule folks are forcing the Saints to go to Dallas next week on another Thursday night, back-to-back Thursdays; no one else is forced to do that. I pray they prepare well for Dallas because if their is anyone worthy of football hate besides Atlanta I vote Dallas.
Saints have to play Carolina twice, Tampa and Pittsburg so the future is pretty bright. While I would love to say they sure don't have to win them all that now is predicated on the play of the LA Rams. We are ahead of them now based on the head to head win but the Rams don't look like a team that will lose maybe more than 1 more game so it's every game counts!
Great job Saints, 10-1, a season with two wins over Atlanta, and a future you guys control!!
Happy Saintsgiving and Geaux Saints!!
