I've enjoyed getting back into routine these past few days but things in my family dynamic are far from routine. In the big picture, things are better but there is still some miles to go. As Wendy continues to recover, to the point of doing some work recently and adding time to her mom's ordeal, her mom has begun a new phase in life. As of this very week, her mom is now residing in a local nursing facility as the realities of her condition hit home. Over the course of the next two weeks our family, along with our dearest friends, will be winding up her mom's apartment. Given everything that has happened to Wendy lately, this is the best option since Wendy's mom will need long term skilled care. We are at peace with this and she is very close to home, so Wendy, her sister, and other family members will become good advocates for her in this new state of life.
Just this week I have maintained my weekly schedule of facilitating adult faith formation, returned to prison ministry at Rayburn, attended our 4th degree KC meeting and now I prepare for a weekend of non-stop busy. I am so excited about the Permanent Deacon Convocation to be held tomorrow, near New Orleans, with our Archbishop Gregory Aymond. The convocation of a year ago was very efficacious and I trust this will be the case tomorrow. While exciting, the convocation and travel time will involve an investment of about 10 hours. It will be a busy Saturday. On Sunday, I have two masses to assist and 2 Baptisms as well. Almost forgot, I will be helping with a wedding too tomorrow night.
All these events point to that return to some normalcy. Wendy is dealing with her new normal, recovering from her own illnesses and her mom now deals with her new normal as well. And we are all doing this as best we can, depending of course, on God's help and your prayers. It has been some time since I asked for the help of your prayers and I look forward to receiving the power of those prayers.
