Wait, isn't still summer, don't kids go back to school after Labor Day? Nope, not down here!

Believe it or not, in my part of the world the kids go back to school tomorrow.  Yep, the deep south in Louisiana in August, 95 degrees with 95% humidity, afternoon thunderstorms brought on by the heat, and from time to time, the most active part of hurricane season.  Indeed, sounds like a perfect time to send the kiddos back to school.

So tonight I will share a prayer for students and teachers right from the Catholic Book of Blessings.  May we add to this prayer that all students, teachers and administrators be safe, always safe throughout the school year:

Lord our God,

In your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.

In times long past you sent us your prophets to teach your laws and to bear

Witness to your undying love.

You sent us your Son to teach by word and example that true wisdom comes from you alone.

Send your Spirit upon these students and their teacher and fill them with your wisdom and

Blessings.

Grant that during this academic year they may devote themselves to their studies and share

What they have learned from others.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
