Pope Francis Proposes Saint Dominic as Model for Young People
A “Faithful Servant of Christ and of His Church”
Pope Francis proposed Saint Dominic (1170-1221) as a model especially for young people, the sick and newlyweds, during his weekly General Audience this Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall.
“Today is the Liturgical Memorial of Saint Dominic Guzman, Founder of the Order of Preachers,” recalled Pope Francis, before expressing the hope that “his example of faithful servant of Christ and of His Church be an encouragement and stimulus for us all.”
The Pontiff wished all those who bear the name Dominic a happy feast day, adding: “May God bless you all.”
On February 3, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI gave this catechesis on Saint Dominic. He stressed that “the missionary action towards those who didn’t know the light of the Gospel and the work of re-evangelization of Christian communities thus became the apostolic objectives that Dominic proposed to pursue.”
