New Orleans gets a new Mayor and it's a woman, and a Catholic

On it's 300th birthday, the City of New Orleans got a new mayor, the first woman ever to hold the top post in the Crescent City.  Latoya Cantrell took over today after first going to Mass at historic St. Louis Cathedral.  Like the last 6 or 7 Mayors before her, she is Catholic.  Without belaboring the point, some of her policies, as a loyal Democrat, do contradict with the Catholic Church but she is Catholic and wanted her day to begin with Mass.

The new Mayor selected readings from Esther and Luke, focusing on Mary's prayer known as the Magnificat.  Archbishop Aymond was the celebrant and offered words of encouragement and offered a special blessing for the new mayor and her family.

So on this historic day we offer prayers for the new Mayor and pray she will often seek guidance from God and Holy Mother Church!
