There's a new visitor in town – and he's staying! St. John Paul II's statue will be blessed in front of St. Louis Cathedral on Sunday by Archbishop Gregory Aymond following the 11 a.m. Mass, which will open the Tricentennial celebration of the City of New Orleans. Pope John Paul II made his historic visit to New Orleans in 1987. The Carrara marble sculpture was crafted by Franco Alessandrini and is a gift to the Archdiocese of New Orleans by the American Italian Cultural Center, which is still raising funds for the project.
