This is how Catholics in the Archdiocese of New Orleans will commemorate Dr.MLK Jr Day

From Dr. Ansel Augustine, Director, Office of Black Catholic Ministries and the MLK Day of service committee:
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" Dr. King would often quote the scripture passage Mark 9:35 in which Jesus of Nazareth tells James and John, "Whosoever will be great among you shall be your servant; and whosoever among you will be the first shall be the servant of all."
To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Archdiocese of New Orleans will once again host a day of service on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - Monday, January 18, 2016. This DAY ON / NOT OFF is an opportunity to live the dream of Dr. King, to strengthen our communities and to empower each of us to bridge barriers through service with others. As a joint venture with several offices of the archdiocese, the Office of Black Catholic Ministries invites you and your faith community to join us in service on this day!
Over the years, we have had widespread participation from people of all ages from across the archdiocese! High School groups, youth groups, adult ministry groups, businesses and organizations, as well as families and individuals are encouraged to join us! Volunteers will begin the day together at Jesuit High School at 7:30 a.m. for prayer with Archbishop Gregory Aymond. Then, they will be dispersed in supervised groups to work on projects like planting seedlings, replacing regular light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs, and sprucing up homes and schools, just to name a few!
