I dropped by Most Holy Trinity Parish again today; it's down to one more week. This growing parish, where I happily and proudly served from January 2011 until this past July, is one week shy of dedicating their new beautiful church building.
Most Holy Trinity was conceived in late 2005, early 2006 as a new Northshore parish to accommodate the needs of all the many folks who had to move to the north side of the lake from New Orleans post Katrina. It was nomadic at first, meeting for Mass in a girls Catholic High School and then a retirement home. When a retail office space known in the community as Mr. Fish, came available, the Archdiocese jumped on it. While plenty of renovations had to happen, the square footage was just right and into Mr. Fish did Most Holy Trinity move! And it has been MHT's home ever since until next week.
At 2 PM next Sunday Most Holy Trinity will open the doors of the new church with a Mass of Dedication. Archbishop Aymond will preside. Old Mr. Fish will continue to be home to weekday daily masses for a few more weeks while the overall transition continues. This is an exciting time for this still young and still growing community of faith!
I don't know the particulars on the new building itself but I can tell you it's big and it's beautiful. Tomorrow afternoon I will see it from the inside for the first time. For the time being catch a glimpse of this gorgeous picture taking just after sundown the other evening:
