Oh my goodness; the Sacraments! How important the Sacraments are in the life of the Church. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a great resource to learn about the Sacraments. Tonight I played a small role in celebrating a Sacrament. Our Archbishop, Gregory Aymond, arrived at Most Holy Trinity tonight to confirm 15 young people and 2 adults. Confirmation is the third Sacrament of Initiation along with Baptism and Eucharist.
The wonderful signs and symbols of the Sacrament of Confirmation include the presence of a Bishop, the color Red, the taking of a new Christian name and the anointing with the Sacred Chrism.
Tonight Archbishop Aymond gave an inspired and blessed homily. He reminded the younger folks that they are not the church of the future, rather, they are the young church of right now. He also challenged those being confirmed to stand up for the faith and stand up for others, particularly the vulnerable and the hurting.
And now that Confirmation is done for another year at MHT I turn my attention to Baptism. I will be baptizing twice this weekend, once Saturday and once Sunday. And I just got invited to assist a brother deacon in baptizing triplets at the end of April. And I just received an invitation in the mail for the Ordination of Transitional Deacons in May; the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Yes, it's all about the Sacraments!
