Happy Saturday and back to work and the ambo

Awake very early on a very wet Saturday morning and it's back to work for me.  After almost 2 weeks home recovering from hernia surgery, today marks my return to work.  Hopefully, returning on a Saturday will prove to be a good move since the work day is only a 4 hour shift.  This should be a good way to more fully prepare for Monday when I return to a normal 8 hour day.

I can say honestly that being home for 2 weeks, when you really could not do anything, is tough.  For the most part, daytime TV is garbage and you can only read for so long.  Still, I managed to pass the time and then once I was cleared to drive, things got much better.

For me returning to work means getting back to more active ministry.  I say it that way because this should serve as a reminder to me, and my readers, that the Catholic Permanent Deacon, is still ministering, still being, even when his doing is impacted by something like recovery.  In a particular way, we are reminded to unite our ministry by prayer, reflection and perhaps doing what is possible while "off the clock".  Yes, it is difficult when you know you are going to miss a weekend rotation at Church, or for me, a week at the prison.  It was very difficult to know that while I was home recovering our Deacon community had it's annual crawfish boil.  Yet missing these things means I am no less a Catholic Permanent Deacon when it is impossible to be physically present.

So this weekend, busy as it can possibly be with Mother's Day, brings my return to work and the ambo.  I am looking forward to preaching twice tomorrow and pray that God continues to give me the strength and lessens the pain to be effective in serving Him at Mass this weekend!
