Happy Sunday morning; even though down here it is wet and promises to stay wet for another 24 hours! It is peaceful as I cherish these quiet morning hours before leaving for Mass. Usually I'm long gone by now on a Sunday morning but this weekend's schedule afforded me some early morning time off!
I always am on here talking about where does the time go. And I was thinking just that today as I realize that Lent is soon to be over. Just next weekend we will arrive at Palm Sunday. How has your Lent been? It's a fair question. Beyond the usual discussions about prayer, fasting and alms giving, how has Lent been for you? Has this season, this time been a time of grace? Has Lent meant for you a time to take spiritual stock? And most importantly, have you used this Lenten season to grow closer, more intimate with God? These are good questions to reflect upon on this 5th Sunday of Lent.
I love some of the special devotions we experience during Lent. Have you had a chance to pray the Stations of the Cross? Perhaps your parish, or one nearby, has conducted a Lenten parish mission? If you are reading this locally, Most Holy Trinity Parish will have one more night, this Thursday, of a series of special Lenten reflections. Come on over!
In the week that just concluded this Deacon experienced a variety of ways to serve. On Monday I taught my wife's CD class. Did I mention this is a group of 15 1st graders. Yep, this is something I won't be volunteering for soon. Now don't get me wrong, what a special blessing to be with our young one's but man, you need extra energy for these kids! Tuesday I was back facilitating an adult faith formation class, based on the Book of Acts. I did not use up nearly as much energy with this group! Wednesday brought prison ministry activity as we begin plans for a summer retreat and a visit, hopefully before the fall season, of our Archbishop to the prison. That is always a special time. And then Thursday brought the second session of the Lenten mission, a marvelous reflection given by Abbot Justin Brown, OSB, on Mary at the foot of the Cross! Would I be like Mary and remain at the Cross? A great question for my personal Lenten reflection and hopefully one you will consider as well! Friday night was my really busy night! 1st Friday and during Lent brought for us at MHT adoration, Stations of the Cross Benediction and our recently added Friday night Mass, every 1st Friday, to remember the Sacred Heart! I presided over Stations and assisted at both Benediction and Mass.
Yesterday evening I assisted the vigil Mass and preached on this 5th Sunday of Lent. And soon I will be doing so again. For now, a few more minutes of relaxation and reflection, then off to church I go.
Have a blessed Sunday!
