Good morning and Happy Easter! The great season of Lent is over and we have passed through the high holy days of the Triduum. We shared the Last Supper with our Lord this past Thursday as we remembered the institution of the Eucharist, the Priesthood and the model we all should follow: wash one another's feet! We traveled the road to Calvary on Good Friday with the Stations of the Cross and the 3 PM liturgy of the Passion! We reflected on this great act of love and self sacrifice! And we waited all day Saturday by the tomb, quiet and reflective, knowing that resurrection awaits!
We arrived at Easter after darkness fell last night, the great Easter vigil! Entering the Church in total darkness, then illuminated slowly from the light of the Easter candle, lit by the new fire. We heard the stories of salvation history then we arrived at the Gloria and the Easter alleluia's in full light. Newly baptized and fully initiated Catholics were welcomed into the Church. It was indeed a glorious night!
Then today comes the radiant dawn. The dawn from on high shines upon us. The tomb is empty, the stone is rolled back; He is Risen! He is truly Risen! Beautiful Easter morning masses await!
What a glorious morning! Yet our challenge is for all of us to live as Easter people always. Our challenge is to rejoice in the Lord yes but to remember all that we experienced and lived in Lent too. Our challenge is to fully understand that yes, we celebrate Easter glory because we too remember Crucifixion!!
May we be Easter people just not today, or tomorrow or even for the full 8 days of Easter Octave. No, fully be Easter people all the days of our lives!
It's Happy Easter morning; Alleluia! Alleluia!!
