Bishop Fabre named Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux

Today, September 23, 2013 Pope Francis named Most Reverend Shelton J. Fabre Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.
Bishop Fabre has been named upon the Holy Father’s acceptance of the retirement of current Bishop Sam Jacobs. For the past six years, Bishop Fabre has served as Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans. Bishop Fabre and New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond will host a news conference today, Monday, September 23 at 2 pm at the archdiocesan Chancery, 7887 Walmsley Ave. in New Orleans to discuss the new appointment. Bishop Fabre is traveling to the diocesan offices of Houma-Thibodaux for a 9 am news conference followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving this morning. "Bishop Fabre for me has been a true brother in ministry. He has been a great coworker in the ministry of this archdiocese, and I have a great deal of respect for him and for the way in which he lives out his ministry as a bishop,” said Archbishop Aymond. “I will sincerely miss him and our ministry together. At the same time, the people of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux are very blessed to receive a loving and gentle shepherd who will walk with them and lead them in the ways of Christ." Bishop Fabre will be installed as Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux at a 2 pm Mass on Wednesday, October 30 at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma.
