Gaspar J. “Buddy” Stall, a familiar face and voice in New Orleans for decades, died Thursday at home. He was 81.
Stall who chronicled much about life in New Orleans authored 11 books, including Buddy Stall’s New Orleans and Buddy Stall’s French Quarter Montage.
He performed in more than 600 television commercials. As an after-dinner speaker, the New Orleans native lectured a long list of civic, business and fraternal groups.
“He was a remarkable historian,” said his daughter, Peggy Hastings of Hammond. “He was the best. He was a loving and caring man.”
A former vice-president of public relations for Radiofone, Stall could be found using his free time to arrive as Santa Claus at homes for the elderly in eastern New Orleans.
He guided efforts to build and install bird houses at hospitals and retirement homes while leading the New Orleans East Kiwanis Club. He was part of a group that set up a camp in Louisiana for diabetic children.
Stall was married to Margaret Stall for 54 years. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary of New Orleans and Kirt of Arabi; two daughters, Laurie Rasmus of Metairie and Peggy.
A wake at the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home will be Sunday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. for family and from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. for the public
