Back to school is upon us; a blessing for students and teachers

Good grief we are sending the vast majority of our kids back to school tomorrow, Monday, August 8th.  Yes you are reading this correctly, August 8th.  This is only surpassed in it's foolishness by those schools that mandated their students return in the week past, some as early as August 1st.  For those precious few who won't start tomorrow, you only have about a week left.  By the 15th of August all of our children will be in school.

What better way to mark the start of school, even too early as it is, then with a blessing.

So here goes:


Lord God, your Spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us your ways.
Look upon these students. Let them enjoy their learning and take delight in new discoveries. Help them to persevere in their studies and give them the desire to learn all things well.   Look upon these teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds. Grant that students and teachers alike may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life, for ever and ever. R. Amen.

Prayers to Begin a School Year
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Let's unite in prayer these days for all our children, teachers, etc. as school begins again, even if it be too early!!
