Karl Keating retires from Catholic Answers; new President announced; story by Kathy Schiffer@ Seasons of Grace

Godspeed, Karl Keating! Catholic Answers Has a New President

I’m not sure when I first heard Karl Keating on the radio–maybe the late 1980s?  the early 1990s?  I know that in the mid-’90s, I was in the audience when Keating, the host of America’s noted Catholic apologetics show, Catholic Answers, appeared in the Detroit area in debate with anti-Catholic preacher Dave Hunt.  Al Kresta was the moderator; and Keating won hands-down, in my estimation.
I remember Karl telling one story from the early days of his ministry:  how he’d come out of Mass one day to find that an anti-Catholic Jack Chick tract had been plastered on the windshields of all the cars in his parish’s parking lot.  Instead of simply dropping the leaflet into the trash, Karl began to develop a response to the wild-eyed anti-Catholic rhetoric on the part of Protestant fundamentalists–rhetoric which had gone largely unchallenged in the media until that time.
When Catholic Answers was first launched, it was a part-time ministry which Keating operated from his home.  It grew (and grew…) into an internationally recognized apostolate which included a two-hour daily radio show, a press and a magazine, and an internet presence including www.catholic.com, which remains one of the most visited Catholic websites in the world.  Catholic Answers’ team of apologist-speakers and their daily radio guests discuss every conceivable question about the Faith–and they answer even the most difficult questions with clarity and grace.  I’ve personally talked with a number of people who owe their conversion or reversion to the Catholic Faith to the Q&A show they listened to on the car radio during their afternoon commute.  I can only imagine how many souls will greet Karl Keating, when he finally arrives at his heavenly reward, and thank him for leading them home to Christ.
This week, Catholic Answers announced that Karl Keating will step down as president of the organization he founded, remaining on board as senior fellow.  Taking his place at the helm will be Christopher Check, who joined the staff of Catholic Answers as development director in 2012.  Check brings to the post his nearly 20 years experience at the Rockford Institute and, before that, as a Marine Corps officer.
Check said of his appointment:
“I cannot imagine building something as magnificent as Catholic Answers and then handing it over. I am grateful beyond words for the confidence shown to me. By the grace of God, Catholic Answers will continue its great work, continue to grow, and bring more souls to the fullness of the truth.”
Keating plans to devote more time to writing and speaking.
Very best wishes to Karl Keating, to Christopher Check, and to all the staff and supporters at Catholic Answers.  May God continue to bless your work
