Our last day in North Carolina gave Wendy and I the opportunity to spend a few precious hours with Calvin before we dropped him off at his day care center. We spent the early morning feeding him breakfast, playing, dressing him up in a suit worn by his dad some 34 years ago, more playing and then the ride to day care. I expected some dramatics when we dropped him off, figuring he would not want to stay and complicated by Wendy and I being the ones doing the drop off. Not so with Calvin. In the parking lot he took my hand and pulled me to the front door. Once inside, he started waving and greeting everyone. When he hit the playroom where his fellow toddlers hang out, it was straight to the fun & games and his little buddies. No cares, no concerns, just fun time for Calvin. Now we did manage to get goodbye kisses, but they were quick as if don't keep me from playing and having fun.
Here is a picture of Calvin in his daddy's outfit from 1980 along with his friend named Bubba:
Yet it was hard to say goodbye as this little man is so good to us when we visit, considering we only see him like a total of 24 days per year! Wendy and I truly love our role as grandparents, Nona & Pops!!!
Family is very important, a huge part of God's plan for our happiness and contentment. Even when things don't go as we want them to, we still are called to love our families and show each other how to love beyond our families and to love God above all else.
So tonight, as we relax somewhere in the state of Alabama, we have more great memories and pictures and plans to be back with Calvin come June! Sleep well #1 grandson, we love you and miss you and can't wait to see you!
