Day 2 of our visit with #1 grandson might be one my wife and I never forget. Yes, I could make that statement because the weather went all haywire today. I mean we awoke to a morning low of 55 at 6 A.M. and by 10 A.M. it was below freezing with strong gusty winds. A driving rain that began before we ventured out for our morning drive quickly turned to snow, sleet and then big snow. Wow! It's still the south and it's March. But that is not why this day will never be forgotten. No, this day was another amazing all day spent with our grandson. As Calvin's mom & dad ventured off to work, it was up to Wendy and I to care for him and play with him all day. At that tender and sometimes awkward age of 18 months he sure warmed up to us despite only seeing us in person about 4 visits per year. Of course I credit our weekly sessions on Skype with keeping us somewhat recognizable for our in-person visits.
As his personality changes with age, he keeps us all smiles by the way he reacts to us, his laughs, his desire to learn new words, his energy and even his vulnerabilities, which he seemed comfortable sharing with us. And then it was the amazing hugs and kisses. Yes, today will be one my wife and I will never forget.
On this particular trip, we only have one more full day, tomorrow, and a half-day on Wednesday before we depart for home. And yes, we will quickly get back to the routines of work and hustle and ministry but we will sure be fueled by the great memories of this amazing visit.
Who I am encompasses many things; all of which I love. But there is something about being a grandpa, Pops, that absolutely fills my heart in ways both unique and wonderful. So the rain fell, the temps cooled off rapidly, the ice came and the snow flew; so what, it was a beautiful day with #1 grandson!
