A long and winding road; in real life

Last week I preached on the long and winding road; indeed today, Wendy and I lived it.  But it sure is worth it!!  Never before have we left our home in southeast Louisiana and arrived in Greensboro in the same day.  Today, we did it.  Wendy agreed to leave the homestead at 5:30 A.M. and indeed we did.  Although any GPS or MapQuest will tell you about 12 hours from point A to point B, it took us an incredible 15.5 hours.  But wait, before you laugh; there is a great reason or two or three.  That amazing 15.5 hours included giving Wendy plenty of opportunity to stretch; remember she is still healing from Tuesday's procedure, getting 3 square meals including 2 sit downs and attending Mass today in a beautiful Catholic Church in Spartenburg, SC.  Here is the picture of the stunning altar and sanctuary of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church:

So while arrival time occurred long after #1 grandson hit the sack for a Saturday night, Nona and Pops plan to be at the house at 8 A.M. sharp for a full day of Calvin, all day!!  We will then watch him on Monday and Tuesday, complete with a nice little Mardi Gras parade in the driveway!

These opportunities are few and far between, although we do our best to get up here at least 4 times a year.  In the week that was which included a health scare for Wendy, it truly is time to revel in family time and embrace that great gift of the family!

So while all my crazies back home are celebrating a March Mardi Gras, and the rest of the world is doing the normal routine; we celebrate our visit with #1 grandson; even if it truly is a long and winding road!
