Marching forward

Welcome to March and the end of my favorite half of the year. I always enjoy the period of October thru March much more so than April thru September. March is the end of our cooler weather and certainly the end to early evenings. In fact later this month we actually will spring forward and begin daylight savings time. And soon the temperture will rise and the grass will begin to grow. The cycle continues.

Plenty to look forward to in March. For many sports enthusiasts it may be March Madness. For others it could be the start of the baseball season. For me March brings birthdays; both my own and that of my son. And March is all about the continuation of Lent and the preparation for Easter. March also brings my big prison ministry retreat and plenty of other opportunities for ministry.

As we arrive at the start of another month we do so amidst another world tragedy; the earthquake aftermath in Chile. Hopefully the death toll will not approach even a fraction of that in Haiti. This reminder of how so not in charge we are gives rise again to our opportunity to respond in prayer and deed.

So we march on as we start the month of March. May we do so with God as our guide and may we continue our Lenten journey of prayer and fasting, penance and grace.
