Archbishop Aymond nails it about the destruction of Thanksgiving

A Thanksgiving 'wake-up call' from Archbishop Aymond

“A cherished family day such as Thanksgiving offers us the opportunity for at least three things: first, we are able to give thanks to Almighty God for all the blessings he has bestowed on us; second, we can pray with our family and give thanks to God for the blessings of family life; and, third, we have the opportunity to spend quality time with each other.
“So I pose this question: Do we really need to go shopping on Thanksgiving Day? A number of stores – and the number seems to be growing daily as the competition increases – have decided to open for business with “special sales” on Thanksgiving Day. Have we become such a consumerist society that we cannot afford one day to refrain from selling merchandise? Can we not keep our stores closed for one day in order to spend time with God and family in a spirit of thanksgiving?
“I ask all Catholics to reflect on the true meaning of Thanksgiving: God and family.”
– Abp. Gregory Aymond
