Houma Police seek suspect in fatal shooting
Published: Sunday, November 24, 2013
Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting Sunday that killed a 66-year-old man who was visiting relatives in Houma.
Connely Duplantis of Gloster, Miss., was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at Terrebonne General Medical Center, Houma Police said.
The incident happened about 1:11 p.m. in the 200 block of Carolyn Avenue, Lt. Dana Coleman said.
Duplantis was visiting relatives when a male shot him then took off running through adjacent yards toward Mary Ann Street, police said.
The wanted man was last seen wearing a black or brown hoodie and blue jeans, Coleman said. He was armed with a handgun.
Houma Police ask anyone with information to call the department at 873-6371 or Bayou Region Crimestoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
Here is more to the story:
This is from the Office of the Permanent Diaconate of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, LA:
" Deacon Connely Duplantis was shot and killed yesterday afternoon at the home of his father in Houma. It appears to be a home invasion and the suspect is still at large. Deacon Duplantis, formerly of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux was in formation in the Archdiocese of New Orleans with the 2006 Formation Group and was ordained that year. Deacon Duplantis and his wife Yvonne recently retired to Mississippi and he was presently incardinated in the Diocese of Jackson. Connely and Yvonne were visiting their family in Houma for Thanksgiving. Please keep the Duplantis family in your prayers during this very sad and difficult time."
Even more: Deacon Duplantis, as a member of the 2006 formation class in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, becomes the 2nd member of the this class killed in the last few weeks. While Deacon Duplantis was cruelly murdered, his classmate, Deacon Pat Becnel, was killed in a tragic helicopter accident in October.
Close to my heart, Deacon Duplantis was once very active in prison ministry in Terrebonne Parish.
Here is another update I just received:
Our deepest sympathies to the family of Deacon Duplantis, all those he ministered to, and may he rest in peace. Well done good and faithful servant.
