A month after the Denver Broncos' win in Super Bowl 50, five-time NFL most valuable player Peyton Manning told the team he is ready to retire.
ESPN reported Sunday that Manning will announce the retirement on Monday.
The retirement will end an 18-year career in which the Newman product won two Super Bowls and set several records with the Broncos and Indianapolis Colts.
Manning, 39, is the all-time record holder in career touchdown passes with 539 and the all-time record holder in passing yards with 71,940. Once Manning retires, Drew Brees will be the active career leader in passing yards with 60,903 yards.
Peyton Manning to announce retirement Monday, ESPN reports
He won two Super Bowls and set numerous passing records over 18 seasons.

Here are some of Manning's other accomplishments on the field:
  • NFL career leader in combined regular-season and playoff wins by a starting QB (200)
  • Only QB in NFL history to lead two teams to a Super Bowl victory (Super Bowl XLI, 50)
  • Most NFL MVP awards (five)
  • Led teams to an NFL-record 15 playoff appearances
  • Most Pro Bowl appearances (14)
  • NFL single-season records in passing touchdowns (55) and passing yards (5,477)
"When you look at everything Peyton has accomplished as a player and person, it's easy to see how fortunate we've been to have him on our team. Peyton was everything that we thought he was and even more—not only for the football team but in the community," general manager John Elway said in a statement.
"Peyton was a player that guys wanted to play with. That made us better as a team, and I'm thrilled that we were able to win a championship in his final year. Peyton won a lot of awards and set a lot of records, but to me, what he helped our team accomplish during the last four years is what stands out the most.
"I'm very thankful Peyton chose to play for the Denver Broncos, and I congratulate him on his Hall of Fame career."

Congratulations Peyton Manning

New Orleans native, the son of New Orleans heroes Archie & Olivia Manning, Peyton Manning, has won Super Bowl 50 with his Denver Bronco teammates.  He certainly was blessed tonight to have by far the best defense in the NFL.  Even though our New Orleans Saints had to beat Peyton Manning in Super Bowl 44, he has always remained a fan favorite here in New Orleans.  We all remember Peyton from Newman High School, throwing touchdown passes to older brother Cooper, then watching little brother Eli come along.

Tonight, all of the greater New Orleans area congratulates favorite son Peyton Manning:

Saints fans forgive and forget; overwhelmingly cheering for native New Orleanian Peyton Manning today

This is what I will always remember when I think of Peyton Manning and Super Bowls:

We will always remember that in a tough twist of fate for the popular so of Archie Manning, it was indeed Peyton who threw the game winning pass, fortunately for Saints fans into the waiting arms of Tracey Porter.

However, many Saints fans were wired for a few hours after the greatest win in the history of Saints football and it continued for a few days to Drew Brees told us to collectively let it go.  You see Saints fans thought it a bit odd that Peyton made no attempt to congratulate Drew Brees or Coach Sean Payton or any other Saints player.  In fact, he really kind of exited stage left and quickly!!

Despite the instant anger, which amused me because we just won the Super Bowl, Saints fans and almost all New Orleanians, still love the Mannings.  Archie is a favorite son, although he is the only non-native.  He and Olivia had three boys: Cooper, Peyton and Eli.  All were born in the Crescent City.  All lived in uptown New Orleans.  All went to and played football for Newman High School.  And all New Orleans followed Cooper at Ole Miss, until his neck injury sidelined him for ever, then Peyton to Tennessee and we all booed collectively when he did not win the Heisman.  We followed Peyton to the Colts then Eli to the Giants. And we cheered both on in every Super Bowl, except of course 4 years ago.

Now today, we hear and read from reliable New Orleans media, the local fan base is supporting Peyton and the Broncos by a margin of 80% to 20% against.  Now some of that could be that Saints fans are learning to really hate the Seahawks.  But, in the end, it is the love affair with the Mannings, despite that lack of a handshake, that makes us pull up a chair and cheer for Peyton.  Yep, down here in New Orleans we forgive and forget; Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!!!

Peyton Manning: Adult stem cells help with treatment(not embryonic but adult...hmmm)

Peyton Manning Has Adult Stem Cell Procedure to Treat Neck

by David Prentice, Ph.D. | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/19/11 10:43 AM

Peyton Manning, quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and four-time NFL MVP, apparently went to Europe to get an adult stem cell procedure on his neck, according to a report Sunday by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
Manning has had three surgeries on his neck in the last 19 months, Little detail was available, but the information indicates that the procedure may have used adipose (fat) derived adult stem cells from Manning’s own body; this autologous procedure (using your own adult stem cells) bypasses any problems of transplant rejection and is relatively safe.
Manning’s adult stem cells may have then been injected around the site of his problem vertebra in the neck, to assist healing and help with spinal disc fusion. In that respect, it sounds similar to the procedure that Texas Gov. Rick Perry received in Houston, Texas, for his back problem.
Glazer indicates in his report that Manning went to Europe for the adult stem cell procedure because it is not yet approved in the U.S. This may be true, since Europe is well ahead of the U.S. in current use of stem cells for actual patient treatments. ALL of those treatments involve adult stem cells, of course.
Glazer’s suggestion that only embryonic stem cell treatments are available in the U.S. is inaccurate, however. It’s true that the only three approved clinical trials experimenting with embryonic stem cells are in the U.S.; with a total of four patients known to have been injected with the dangerous embryonic stem cells, and no results as yet.
But there are actually over 2,200 FDA-approved adult stem cell clinical trials ongoing or completed, most of which in this list are in the U.S. That includes several adult stem cell trials using adult stem cells for spinal fusion, and even a couple of adipose-derived adult stem cell trials in Indianapolis. Maybe Peyton realized that only adult stem cells had real potential for safe and ethical treatment of patients. Hopefully, he will talk about his experience so more people understand the difference between embryonic and adult stem cells.

C'mon New Orleans; let's forgive Peyton Manning

Much has been made about the end of the Super Bowl and the quick disappearing act by Peyton Manning. The traditional visit near midfield between opposing starting QB's with the big handshake never happened.

Peyton explained a couple of things that just don't wash. He claims the moment was that belonging to the Saints and the set up for the post game celebration was well underway. While both statements are true, the film shows Manning making no effort whatesoever to even glance at the field and find Drew Brees. In fact, locker room reports state that Manning, along with Reggie Wayne, both New Orleanians, were the first to make it inside.

All this being said, Manning made a mistake. Manning exercised poor judgement. But Manning did not wipe away a lifetime of being from New Orleans, a supporter of his hometown and an all around pretty nice guy. As Saints fans, as New Orleanians, as spiritual people, should we not forgive and move on. After all, Drew Brees has, the Saints have and we should too.

Let's move on people. Can't we focus more time on our 1st Super Bowl victory? And should we not take our lead from our conquering heroes themselves?

I would encourage some in the media, not all just some, to lay off. Peyton Manning will have plenty of opportunities to comment on his mistake, if he chooses to. I can't remember if it was Ellen or Oprah where Drew said its a non issue. In fact, he and Peyton have spoken and all is well.

As New Orleanians euphoric with our Saints Super Bowl reality, we want even Peyton, who just led his team in defeat, who threw the game changing interception, to take off his competitors hat, remove his allegiance to his team, the Colts, and belt out a who dat or a geaux Saints. Maybe we are asking too much.

So for now, I hope Peyton will address the situation, let us know how he feels about New Orleans, and we will say forgiven big guy. And then, let's redirect all our focus on the fact that we won the Super Bowl baby. And that's good enough for me!
