Every year since I started this little enterprise I take to these pages to rail against August. Yes, I have each month prioritized if you will, ranked from best month of the year to worst month of the year. The honor of worst month always goes to August. And that has been especially so since 2005, the year we met Hurricane Katrina with such devastating effects. August is just so damn hot down here, ironically though we send our youth back to school; in some districts as early as tomorrow? Really, is that necessary?
But I'm trying to be more optimistic about month #12 on my personal scale of 1through 12. August does bring football back and that means about 4 preseason games for our Saints. August also helps draw us closer to October and all the other nicer months for us living in the deep south. August also brings some wonderful celebrations of the lives of great Saints in the Church and the glorious solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother.
In 2013, August promised to be full of profound change in the life of our family. Original plans had my young one moving to Memphis to continue her education but fate intervened. A Master's Degree already secured, Elizabeth got a wonderful job offer here close to home and she began her teaching career this past week. Soon, she will meet her students for the first time! Exciting yes; even more exciting as she lives only 20 minutes away. August 2013 is also the last full month before our newest family member, #1 grandson Calvin, reaches birthday #1 during the first week of September! That's something great to look forward to!
So here is the deal; if the heat does not melt us and hurricanes stay far, far away, I will indeed look at August with a fresh set of eyes!
