Memories of past Labor Days: MDA and Mattie Stepanek

On this Labor Day it feels remarkably different that in the early hours of this morning there is no MDA telethon to watch.  No Jerry Lewis, no appeals for fundraising dollars, no corny acts to watch, no MDA telethon at all.  The already well documented dust up resulted in a 6 hour telethon that wrapped up at midnight last night, without Jerry Lewis.  I watched some of it; truly, not the same.

I know not everyone loved Jerry Lewis and that others really never followed the MDA telethon.  But I always followed it and loved my involvement with it for several years.

One of my greatest memories of the MDA telethons was the amazing Mattie Stepanek.  He, and his family, were always a great inspiration.  His legacy lives on despite losing his earthly battle with his muscular disease in 2004.
