You all know the story - Prison ministry has been shut down at the prison I visit since March 11, 2020. That's one year and one day since the disappointing but understandable news. I have not been inside Rayburn Correctional since Saturday, March 7, 2020. I knew it might be some time before I could return; little did I know it would take this long.
Yesterday, there was a sliver of promising news. The Department of Corrections in Louisiana and Governor Edwards decided to reinstate family visitation for the incarcerated. I am happy for the men I minister to and for their families. As I read the rest of the article it stated that DOC was instructed to put a plan in place to reinstate prison ministry visits in the not too distant future.
I pray this will not be tooo long and I can assure you, once given the green light, I'll be there. I earnestly long to return to my Catholic faith family at Rayburn Correctional - the St. Peter's Catholic Community. I have one ask: pray that this will be worked out soon and pray for these Catholic brothers who are striving to work out their salvation as we all are.
