Since November 6th I have been numbered among the unemployed. My banking career, beginning with a credit union in 1983, has come to an end. Sadly, the way my position was dismissed I have decided I am through with banking. Banking in 2020 is no longer relational, no longer consultative, is totally about the next widget or the widget of the month/quarter/year. Surprisingly, I do not or will not miss it. I will miss my clients, many of whom are also relationships from church and ministry. Tragically, helping churches and ministries and parishioners, most of them clients, seemed sinister to those who pull the strings.
I hinted at this before but please allow me to expand here. Since 2012 I have worked in the community of Pearl River. I really will miss my daily jaunts to this community, dealing with the clients who have become important to me, the things that give Pearl River their charm and personality. I loved to eat at places like Lester's and Two Blessed Girls and Terry's and, yes, the local Subway. All good people. I loved watching the river, especially when it was high and flowing fast and I loved those mornings when I saw the Amtrak, passing through the heart of Pearl River on the way to all points north and east. And I loved seeing the children and teens as I traveled past 5 different school zones. And there is more; the people I helped at the town hall or the local churches and charities and recreation centers. I have a fondness for Pearl River that I hope will continue.
Now to today: for the time being I have decided to take a position and leadership role at my local church parish. It's temporary but it fits for now as I pursue various options now that I am no longer working in big corporate America. I am pleasantly surprised at the opportunities coming forward from so many people. I hope to be able to blend my skills from 37 years in corporate America and my ministry as a Deacon to make a difference at good and holy St. Jane de Chantal. Working at home in my community of Abita Springs and at the church home I have loved since 1996 is something I am really looking forward to.
So that's the update for now. Day 1 at the church is done, I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow; been a long time since I've said that!
