Attention all Catholics: it's a two for two weekend: Saturday is a Holy Day of Obligation, Sunday is Sunday; what to do

Hey all Catholics, head's up.  This weekend we are all given the great opportunity to go to Mass on Saturday AND Sunday.  If that's not motivating enough you and I are obliged, under penalty of mortal sin.  Now that I have your attention here is the deal: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is Saturday, December 8th.  This Feast is the national patronal feast day of our country so this holy day of obligation is never abrogated.  No matter what day of the week this Feast Day falls on, we go!  So here is how you can work it:

Since Sunday masses must have a vigil, the feast day can only be attended on Friday night (the vigil mass of the Immaculate Conception) or again on Saturday, normally up to about noon, for practical reasons.  When the normal Saturday vigil mass begins, it will be for the 2nd Sunday of Advent.  Of course, all day Sunday is, well, Sunday!

You could go to mass Friday night and Saturday night = all good!
Friday night and Sunday = all good!
Saturday morning and Saturday vigil mass = all good!
Saturday morning and Sunday = all good!

Just make sure one mass celebrates the feast of the Immaculate Conception and one mass clearly celebrates the 2nd Sunday of Advent!!

And please know what the Immaculate Conception is all about; not Jesus' incarnation, it's Mary. conceived without sin, to be the spotless, perfect vessel to carry the baby who is God; Mary is Theotokos: God-bearer.  Hail Mary full of grace really means Hail Mary blessed with a most particular grace to be the Mother of God!  More on this soon!

So get ready, you and I are going to Mass twice this weekend!
