The Portland Trail Blazers tried to fight, scratch and claw, but the New Orleans Pelicans were just too good.
The two teams engaged in a feisty contest that was much more competitive than the first time they met at Smoothie King Center.
The Pelicans led by as much as 33 points in the fourth quarter of Game 3, but the game was much tighter on Saturday (April 21).
The Trail Blazers did all they could to stay alive, but Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday combined to score 88 points to guide the Pelicans to a 131-123 victory at Smoothie King Center, completing the sweep of the first-round series.
Davis and Holiday scored with ease the entire night and there wasn't much of anything Portland could do to slow the star combo down. Davis finished with a playoff career-high 47 points and 11 rebounds. Holiday also had a playoff career-high 41 points and eight assists.
It was the first time in franchise history that the Pelicans had two players reach 40 points in the same game.
The Pelicans advance to the conference semifinals for only the second time in franchise history and could face the defending champion Golden State Warriors if they can close their series against the San Antonio Spurs with a win on Sunday.
