The First Friday in Lent

You know that Friday's in Lent are very traditional in my part of the world.  Since the Lent of 2000 our local Knights of Columbus began a Fish Fry that was a new idea to our parish.  Our Grand Knight at that time envisioned the Fish Fry as a way to perhaps increased attendance at the Stations of the Cross.  He was right, we noticed a nice increase in attendance for this powerful Lenten devotion.

Fast forward 18 years and the KC Fish Fry dinners are the talk of the entire community.  It is not unusual for the men to serve up 500-600 dinners of fish, shrimp, fries, coleslaw and a drink.  The demand has become so intense that they begin selling dinners right before 5 pm and probably 90% of the meals are served before the Stations of the Cross begin at 7 pm.  By the way we do offer take out or dine in, your choice.

Since I offered most of the Stations of the Cross last year at our parish, I can attest that attendance is good, but as always, could be better.  I urge all Catholics to consider attending Stations, perhaps you can't attend them all during Lent, but make a strong, sincere effort to make some.  It is powerful to pray and walk with Jesus on His way to the Cross.

Some other things to do and remember on this  first Friday in Lent.  Pray the 51st Psalm.  Offer a Rosary today for reparations for sin.  Do something incredibly kind for someone else.  Fast.  Remember you are obligated to abstain from meat today.  Come buy a dinner from your local KC/parish fish fry, pray the Stations of the Cross.
