Our real winter continues

Winter in southeast Louisiana is a relative thing; it usually means a very few days of below freezing temperatures and a slight chance of some freezing precipitation and many more days of lows like 45 an highs like 60-65.  And always there are plenty of days with warmer weather, sometimes as high as 80 and many mornings with fog.  This year, it has been cold, very cold for us.

From a freaky early December snow event to a very cold week before Christmas, to an even colder early January with 6 consecutive days below 28 to this weeks wintry mix and lows forecast to drop to 19.  If it snows or something close to snow it will be the 2nd time for us in my neck of the woods and the 3rd time far south in Louisiana.  The snow currently falling in the Shreveport area is the 5th time some snow has fallen in Louisiana.

Every winter I prepare for the worst and am ready to run the water, put the light on my water pump and other precautions.  Last winter I might have had to turn on that water and light like 5 mornings tops.  And most of them were for lows between 25-28.  This year, we are preparing for tonight which will be the 10th night such precautions are necessary.  So tonight will be about 22, tomorrow 19 and we very well may get that wintry mix.

Since this is southeast Louisiana, once we get through this cold snap, expected to last until Friday morning, just hang on for Sunday with a high temperature of 73.  Now that's more like winter in south Louisiana!
