Archbishop Aymond statement on DACA

Archbishop Gregory Aymond
Today I am deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen to cancel the DACA program. This program had enabled young people, who came to this country as... minors with their parents, an opportunity to work and to contribute to our country. Its cancellation is harmful not only to them but to their families and to our nation.

In Matthew 25 we read, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me.” DACA’s cancellation does not reflect our Gospel values and what we believe as Catholics. It is also in opposition to American values. This decision will affect many families in a tragic way, and I join with the bishops and many other people of good will in urging Congress to act quickly towards a just legislative solution for the DACA youth.

As Church we will continue to advocate for these young people and work for justice. Please join me in prayer that we may find a swift and just solution that respects the dignity of the human person and brings peace to individuals, families, and our communities.
