The man fatally shot Saturday morning (May 7) in New Orleans was a Tulane grad in town with his fiancee to plan his wedding, the man's father said. Ron Rolfes said his son Thomas Rolfes was 25.
Thomas Rolfes' body was found at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Amelia Street and South Claiborne Avenue (map). He was shot in the chest and died at the scene, New Orleans police said.
Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse on Monday confirmed the victim's identity and said he died from a gunshot wound.

Officers responded to reports of a man lying in the street at 4:36 found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities have released few details publicly, but the victim's brother Ron "Tripp" Rolfes told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch the family wants to find his killer.
"He was out on a Friday night, and from the information we have, we believe he was mugged," he said.
According to the newspaper report, Thomas Rolfes met his fiancee, Elizabeth Fried, at Tulane, where he graduated in 2011.
"He was here to start the next chapter of his life," his mother, Julie Rolfes, told WDSU. "He was meeting his fiancee to visit venues for their wedding. It was the next chapter. Our firstborn was marrying this beautiful girl."

NOPD sources told WDSU that Rolfes was last seen on surveillance video at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at a gas station near Claiborne Avenue buying two bottles of water.
Authorities ask anyone with information on this crime to contact Homicide Detective Drew Waldron at 504.658.5300 or Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111.
