It is with deep regret that we inform you of the decision to cancel the Abbey Youth Festival for 2016. No amount of optimism can push the weather system away from the AYF field. As the weather and travel advisories have multiplied, our concerns about remaining steadfast in staging the festival rain or shine has given way to our concern for everyone who would have to travel on highways and interstate corridors that are under emergency warnings. We want to serve young people, not jeopardize their safety, as we would be doing if we proceeded.
In 16 years of Abbey Youth Festivals, this is the first one that has had to be cancelled due to weather. This is a remarkable record and we thank God for it, as we also accept His will gratefully in all things, including this unhappy necessity. "We received good things from the Lord; shall we not also receive the bad?" (Job 2:10) The Lord be praised, now and forevermore!
Thank you for bearing with us as we have sorted through the changing forecasts. We will be in touch in the next few days concerning the shipment of t-shirts and reimbursements.
