St. Joseph's Day means the return of ornate and oftentimes spectacular altars to all manner of places in New Orleans.
As our own Ann Maloney wrote:
"Around the city countless volunteers – those in altar societies, church members, along with nonCatholics -- spend hours and hours making stuffed vegetables, baked whole fish, fig cookies and elaborate breads and pastries for the altars. In private homes, many open their doors to friends and neighbors."
These altars aren't just limited to churches or private residences, either.  Today our staff will collect the beautiful, the bizarre, and the bountiful for your viewing pleasure.  Check back with this post today as we update (be sure to refresh periodically).
