LARTL Hopes to Advance Pro-Life Cause under Governor Edwards
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, released the following statement this evening following the run-off elections:
"On behalf of Louisiana Right to Life, I would like to congratulate Governor-elect John Bel Edwards on his victory today.
"We also want to thank Senator Vitter for his two decades of pro-life leadership on behalf of the people of Louisiana. We are grateful for his unwavering dedication to the defense of human life. With pressing pro-life issues facing the U.S. Senate, we anticipate more opportunities to partner together to defend life before he leaves the U.S. Senate.
"We hope to work with Governor-elect Edwards to advance the pro-life cause in Louisiana. As a candidate, Governor-elect Edwards has expressed his position as pro-life, and he answered our questionnaire pro-life. As a state legislator, Governor-elect Edwards had a pro-life voting record with Louisiana Right to Life. Louisiana Right to Life has a long history of working effectively with pro-life Democrats, and it is our desire to continue that trend with Governor-elect Edwards.
"With Planned Parenthood's abortion expansion imminent in Louisiana, Governor-elect Edwards will have many opportunities to put the pro-life positions he has shared into action. Defunding Planned Parenthood's abortion business should be a priority for Governor-elect Edwards.
"Louisiana Right to Life also offers congratulations to Billy Nungesser, our new Lt. Governor, and Jeff Landry, our new Attorney General, on their victories. Both of these men are pro-life, and we are excited to work with them in their positions.
"Louisiana Right to Life is committed to working with our newly-elected Legislature, which remains solidly pro-life, and our statewide elected officials to build a stronger pro-life Louisiana. We encourage the pro-life citizens of Louisiana to stay engaged as we move forward into 2016 "
