Tonight is one of those nights that makes me look forward to the fall season! Friends are over and we are preparing to watch a little football. Yes, it's preseason, but we are moving in the right direction. The Saints are on the tube tonight and lately, that may or may not be a good thing. And tonight is cool; yes, thanks to rain but to be at 6 pm in late August and it's in the 70's; not bad. Another thing making me ready for fall! Yet there is something not very fall like brewing out there. Tonight we are still watching Hurricane Danny, so far out but predicted to die out before it can reach the Gulf of Mexico. But since peak hurricane season is August 15th thru September 10th, we have two more disturbances coming off the coast of Africa. Hurry up and wait, hurry up and watch. By far, these things are awful and keeps unpleasant memories of Hurricane Katrina alive.
Today was a Saturday that brought no Masses to assist at for the first time since I've been back at St. Jane's(not counting vacation). Tomorrow my schedule remains up in the air until we formalize a Deacon's schedule come September. For me, I am trying to get in front of different mass crowds to reestablish relationships after being gone for almost 5 years. Of course this is not the reason Deacons are at Mass but it is important for me to reconnect. I've been attending our 6 pm mass on Sundays almost every week as that mass has traditionally not had a Deacon presence for sometime. Since it is our CYO/Youth Mass, I think a Deacon should be present.
Tomorrow also brings a big parish fund raiser for one of our parishioners who was hurt in a freak swimming accident at the beginning of the summer. In fact, if you are a local reading this come to Abita and help a family that truly needs some help! The event is 10 AM to 2 PM at St. Joseph Hall, right next to St. Jane de Chantal Church.
Well, it's game time. Hopefully I will not lose my stuff since it's just preseason. Oh by the way, I'm brave. I'll tell everyone right now my preseason prediction for the 2015 Saints; and it ain't good: 7-9.
and yes, I would be happy to be wrong, in a good sort of way. Off to watch the game!
