Pope Francis offered support and wishes of well-being to the residents of New Orleans during the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, according to the Clarion Herald, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
"We remember with sadness that hurricane's devastating impact on New Orleans and much of Southeast Louisiana," Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the personal representative to Pope Francis in the United States, said in a letter written on behalf of the pope. "The image of those who were trapped in the floodwater and of those who died will, I am sure, be etched in your minds for generations to come."
The pope encouraged residents to draw strength from the signs of recovery in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and offered thanks to those who helped to rebuild the region after the storm.
