In a few days we are awaiting the release of the encyclical on the environment by Pope Francis. The hysteria is amazing since not a word of this encyclical has been announced. The fact that a Pope would tackle environmental issues seems to have folks either very defensive or excited; unfortunately this is predicated on political beliefs and not beliefs based on faith.
Since we do not know what is in this particular encyclical, perhaps it would be a great idea to read some of the more well known social justice encyclicals of the past 125 years or so. You may be surprised at what great Popes have advocated in their writings. Take a look:
