This Pope has impeccable timing: on immigrants

Pope Francis on immigrants: For Christians, “no one is a stranger”

2014-11-21
The Pope said that migrants do not pose a threat to society, but instead contribute to the countries that receive them.

Speaking to participants of the World Congress for the Pastoral Care of Migrants, the Pope stressed that all people have a right to improve their lives. For this reason, he said immigration is a doorway to hope for many people who lack opportunities in their country of origin.

POPE FRANCIS
"Above all in areas of the world in difficulty, where the lack of work prevents individuals and their families from achieving a dignified life, there is a strong drive to seek a better future wherever that may be, even at the risk of disappointment and failure. This is caused in great part by the economic crisis.”

Pope Francis said that for the Church "no one is a stranger”. He explained that people's dignity does not hinge on their religion, ethnicity, or their productive capacity.

Concluding his address, the Pope said that migrants are "a reminder of the need to eradicate inequality, injustice and abuses.”
