You know, it must be August in Louisiana

Right on cue August is here and finally this summer we have real summertime heat and those pesky afternoon summer showers.  We missed out on both for most of the summer until August reared it's ugly head.  And it must be August in these parts because the young ones returned to school this week.  Back to driving through 3 school zones every morning on my way to work.  And it must be August because tonight, die-hard football crazies will watch every moment of an insignificant Saints game but at least football is back!

Just like the community at large, the Church too roars back to life now that it is August.  Not that the Church ever sleeps but certain things seem to take a vacation, a brief respite, over the summer months.  Hitting close to home is all things diaconate formation.  I spoke of our retreat last week with our aspirant group and now their formation classes begin.  Last night we welcomed the 2018 formation class to the diaconate center where they will toil over the next 4 years.  And our 2015 class will be starting their final year of formation classes, mostly homiletics, in a week or so.  Parish and Catholic school life also comes alive now that we have hit August.  Here in our area, most Catholic school students are already back in the classroom.  Parishes are back to full staff and CCD or PSR classes too will begin soon.  Deanery meetings and initiatives from the diocese chanceries will certainly spike over the next many weeks.

August rolls on, time to get busy.  Enjoy the journey!
