Succint wrap up of my day in prison

I think I'm calmed down enough to tell you what a glorious day my Saturday has been, spent inside the walls and behind the bars of Rayburn Prison. For the 1st time ever, our Catholic Community hosted a one day retreat that was attended today by more than 120 men. Quite a few were non-Catholic and one even admitted that he came to see how Catholics pray and worship. He was to tell me later he wa...s not disappointed. My goodness, the Holy Spirit was working overtime in our two anointed speakers, Sister Judy Gomila and Ansel Augustine, from the New Orleans office of Black Catholics. They inspired, made us laugh, helped us to feel God's love & presence, and showed us love! We were blessed to feed the men a lunch of Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits and then they were fed by God's Holy Word! I was blessed to lead a communion service to conclude our day. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, this was the most blessed day I have spent in prison among many blessed days. Thanks to our director of prison ministry, John Messenhiemer for coordinating this blessed day, thanks to Linda Fjeldsjo from the Diocese of Baton Rouge and Sister Judy and Ansel Augustine. And my most sincere thanks to all the men who came today, responded generously and inspire me and this prison ministry entrusted to me every day. I could literally feel the Holy Spirit present with us. Thanks Be to God!
