Merry Christmas yáll; yep, it's still Christmas! The season ends soon though, Sunday a week with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. And we have a big feast to celebrate first this coming Sunday, the Epiphany of the Lord. Traditionally, Epiphany is January 6th and that falls on Monday. Here in the New Orleans area the 6th also takes on the added celebration of 12th Night of King's Day, and while still Christmas, seasonally, the 6th does kick off the Mardi Gras season!
More than asking if your tree is still up or if the lights are still shining on the house, does your heart still carry the saving message of a baby born in most humble settings; a light for each of us, an opportunity for an intimate relationship with God? This is what we can reflect on and carry with us throughout the rest of Christmas season and the whole year long!
I hope your Christmas was wonderful; and I know for some there are real reasons for sadness too. In both cases, that beautiful babe lying in a manger, with the love of his mom and foster-father so evident, is our source of spiritual sustenance and physical comfort and peace!
I hope your tree is still up, and you are not beyond belting out a Christmas tune or two. But I hope your heart is swelling with love because of the gift of the Christ at Christmas; and all year too!
