Ending Christmas Day in Jail

How did your Christmas Day come to a close?  Relaxing after a long day, watching a movie, perhaps a family dinner?  I ended my day in jail; well actually a state prison.  Rayburn Correctional, the site of my Archdiocesan ministry, allowed me to come in tonight for a faith-based call out.  This was never tried before but since my regular night at the prison is Wednesday, they were able to work it out.

I was thrilled to see almost 40 men come out to worship.  We read the prayers and readings for the Mass of the Day and offered personal intentions as our prayers of the faithful.  The men were able to receive Holy Communion on Christmas Day.  Several of our non-Catholic friends came tonight too in fellowship.

I got to visit with about a dozen or so of the men one on one and they were so happy to celebrate Christmas from a faith perspective and share something of themselves on this holy night.

Thanks be to God that I heard the promptings of the Holy Spirit to make this a Christmas night I will never forget!
